d’or - for the SMK ‘Guldalderen omsat til lyd’ exhibition

Dansk Guldalder – Verdenskunst mellem to katastrofer

A piece for cello with electronics. Premiered: Wednesday 27th November, 2019 by Toke Møldrup. A collaborative work between the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst, to present artworks of the Danish Golden Era brought to life in the exhibition by music composed specifically for one of the chosen works.

What interested me so deeply about the works of this era was their treatment and sensitivity to light - it is captured so incredibly and consistently throughout the works featured in the exhibition. I chose to set my - d’or - (translating to ‘of gold’) to the painting Bøgeskov i maj, painted in 1857 by Peter Christian Skovgaard. The work makes further commentary on public spaces and the importance of ‘collective space’ for all areas of a society to constructively converse.

Notes on the exhibition:

Dansk

Join us on a musical journey into the golden age of the universe when strings meet electronic music. On the occasion of the autumn's big exhibition Danish Golden Age - World art between two disasters, we invite a number of concerts in the middle of the art.

Hear the art come to life through sound amidst golden-age masterpieces. Inspired by a number of Golden Age paintings, composers have created musical works that are performed live by a cellist and electronic musician in front of the paintings in the exhibition. Before each mini-concert, one of the museum's art providers briefly unfolds what has inspired the evening's new musical work.
