Relic: Tempo Rubato

  • Tempo Rubato Melbourne Australia (map)

Relic, commissioned by Joshua Hyde, for solo soprano saxophone with live electronics. World premiere.

This piece contemplates time’s presence in shared spaces, where we are but brief custodians in the vast, unyielding sweep of history. The soprano saxophone, in dialogue with its own reflections, becomes the voice of time itself - evoking lost worlds and unearthing new meanings, as though the past whispers to the future through the stillness of the present. As the saxophone’s voice rises and merges with the electronic landscape, it becomes a relic of its own sound that is reimagined in the light of its reflection.

Performed by Joshua Hyde alongside works by Cat Hope, Sarah Nemstov, and Charlie Sdraulig at Tempo Rubato, Melbourne, Australia.
