Vol is the word for both flight and theft when translated from French. Here taken out of context, the meaning of the word becomes ambiguous and in being so allows for an analysis of time following the Russian Revolution of 1917, when thousands of families fled the country they had once known as home, many to never return. 100 years later the history of displacement remains largely untold and unexplored. This work is a homage to my grandparents.
Scored for soprano saxophone and piano. Premiering by Andrzej Karałow and Pablo Sánchez-Escariche Gasch in Łazienki Palace, Poland (pałac Łazienkowski).
